The Programme for Harmonization to International Scale (Ph-IS) for the molecular test of BCR-ABL1 is the result of years of collaboration between sectors of academia, industry and research and development in Argentina.
This initiative was reflected in the emergence of the LABS network (Latin American BCR-ABL1 Standardization), made up of laboratories from Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala. Today, these laboratories are able to standardize the RT-qPCR for BCR-ABL1 at the international scale, improving the monitoring of patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. The recent publication in the leading international medical/scientific journal on leukemia is the main witness of the success, achieved through this initiative (Leukemia, 2016 https://www.nature.com/articles/leu2016197)
Your participation in this program will give you the possibility of harmonizing your real-time PCR methodology on the international scale.
This process of standardization today represents a quality control of extreme importance, in order to be able to report the results in an appropriate way according to the international guidelines. For the last 6 years we have been leading this program that currently has more than 30 laboratories. In our experience, the laboratories that have made this investment have benefited from a significant increase in the sale of the test, since today it is mandatory to have this quality certificate.
The nominal values of the calibrators that we produce in Ph-IS are aligned to the primary calibrators of the WHO (1st WHO International Genetic Reference Panel for the quantitation of BCR-ABL translocation). In addition, we actively participate in the quality program of the UKNEQAS (Leucocyte Immunophenotyping, http://www.ukneqasli.co.uk).
